Local Data Storage & Backup Policy
1. Purpose
This Local Data Storage & Backup Policy explains how MoniPilot™ stores, protects, backs up, restores, and manages your financial information.
Unlike many finance applications, MoniPilot follows a local-first architecture, meaning your financial records remain primarily on your own device instead of being routinely stored on MoniPilot-operated servers.
This document should be read together with the:
- Privacy Policy
- Terms of Service
- End User License Agreement (EULA)
- Data Retention & Deletion Policy
- Security & Encryption Policy
2. Local-First Architecture
As of the Effective Date of this Policy:
- Financial information is stored locally on your mobile device.
- MoniPilot does not routinely upload your financial records to MoniPilot-operated servers.
- Backend infrastructure is used only for account management, authentication, subscription verification, security, customer support, and related operational functions.
This architecture is designed to provide users with greater privacy, control, and offline access to their financial information.
3. Data Stored Locally
The following information is generally stored on your device:
- Income records
- Expense records
- Budgets
- Categories
- Spending history
- Financial notes
- Recurring transactions
- Subscription records
- Warranty records
- Money lent records
- Money borrowed records
- Goals
- Reports
- Dashboards
- User preferences
- Application settings
Future versions of MoniPilot may store additional user-generated content locally as new features are introduced.
4. Data Stored on MoniPilot Servers
MoniPilot currently stores only information reasonably necessary to operate the Services, including:
- User account information
- Authentication credentials (stored securely)
- Subscription status
- Premium entitlement
- Customer support communications
- Security logs
- Operational logs where reasonably necessary
- Fraud prevention information
MoniPilot does not routinely store your financial transactions, budgets, or similar financial records on its own servers.
5. Offline Functionality
Because financial information is stored locally, many core features remain available even without an active internet connection.
Offline availability depends on the specific feature being used. Certain features, such as account authentication, subscription validation, AI services, or Google Drive backup, may require an internet connection.
6. Optional Google Drive Backup
Paid users may choose to enable backup to their personal Google Drive account.
When enabled:
- Backup files are stored in your own Google Drive account.
- You retain ownership of those backup files.
- You control access to your Google Drive account.
- You may restore backups using the MoniPilot application.
- You may delete backup files directly from Google Drive or through supported application features.
Google Drive services are provided by Google and are subject to Google's own terms and privacy policies.
7. Backup Frequency
Where backup functionality is enabled, MoniPilot may allow:
- Manual backups initiated by the user.
- Automatic backups at configurable intervals (if supported in your app version).
Users are encouraged to verify that backups complete successfully.
8. Restoring Data
If backup functionality has been enabled, users may restore supported backup files to a compatible installation of MoniPilot.
The restore process may overwrite existing local financial records. Users should ensure they understand the consequences before restoring a backup.
9. Device Replacement
When replacing a device:
- Install MoniPilot on the new device.
- Sign in with your account, if required.
- Restore your most recent backup (if available).
- Verify that your financial information has been restored successfully before removing the application from your previous device.
10. Device Loss or Damage
If your device is lost, stolen, damaged, factory reset, or otherwise becomes inaccessible, financial information stored only on that device may be permanently lost.
If no backup exists, MoniPilot generally cannot recover your locally stored financial records because they are not routinely stored on MoniPilot-operated servers.
11. User Responsibilities
You are responsible for:
- Protecting your device.
- Maintaining appropriate device security.
- Creating backups if desired.
- Protecting your Google account credentials.
- Verifying successful backups.
- Restoring backups carefully.
12. Data Recovery Limitations
MoniPilot cannot guarantee recovery of locally stored financial information in situations including:
- Device failure.
- Device theft.
- Factory reset.
- Accidental deletion.
- Corrupted local storage.
- Deleted Google Drive backups.
- Loss of access to your Google account.
13. Future Cloud Synchronization
Future versions of MoniPilot may introduce optional encrypted cloud synchronization or additional storage options.
If such features are introduced:
- Users will be informed through updated legal documentation.
- Material changes affecting personal data processing will be communicated where required by applicable law.
- Additional consent will be obtained where legally required.
14. Changes to this Policy
MoniPilot may update this Policy to reflect changes in technology, security practices, legal requirements, or application features.
Non-material updates become effective upon publication. Where required by law, MoniPilot will provide notice or obtain consent for material changes.
